There’s a lot that goes into choosing the right mattress for you. Picking out a mattress with the right comfort level and components for your unique sleep needs will ensure years of healthy rest. Not sure where to start? This mattress buying guide from the pros at Texas Mattress Makers features all the expert knowledge you need to pick the perfect mattress.
Here’s what to consider when shopping for a new mattress.
Different bodies have different needs, and no one comfort level is right for everyone. Learn more about the different mattress comfort levels and discover which one is right for you.
Note: Each of our mattresses has its own unique feel. Please see product pages for full comfort level details.
Ultra-soft mattresses give you a cloud-like sleeping surface due to the multiple layers of the softest foam at the top of the comfort layers. This will exaggerate the cradling effect you have in typical soft mattresses, and allow you to really sink into the surface of the comfort layers of the mattress.
Soft mattresses use softer foams at the top of the comfort layers that allow you to go deeper into the surface of the mattress, while still having support underneath. Soft mattresses are great for all sleeping positions but are most loved by side and back sleepers who are lightweight or are in an average weight class.
Medium mattresses offer a balanced sleep experience of softer cushioning with dense, sturdy support. Not too soft, not too firm, this is truly a happy medium comfort level and is a great option for all types of sleepers.
A medium-firm mattress combines both cushion and resistance so that you can experience plush pressure point relief without sinking, while also being suspended on top of the mattress. This feel is the most popular feel for all sleeping positions.
A firm mattress is great for sleepers who like to feel suspended on top of the mattress without sinking into the comfort layers below. This feel is great for all sleeping positions and is especially good for those who prioritize mobility on the mattress.
Ultra-firm mattresses offer maximum support with little to no give to keep you supported on the mattress surface with zero sinking. An ultra-firm mattress is ideal for sleepers who want that hard, as-close-to-the-floor-as-possible surface feel.

Choosing the right components and materials is what truly makes a mattress perfect for you and your needs. Our mattress collections cater to specific needs, preferences, and budgets that will give you the best sleep of your life.
Open coils are the traditional coil used in innerspring mattresses. They’re best used for small children and teens or those who need minimal support.
Hybrid mattresses combine individually wrapped coils and different types of materials for an ideal mix of comfort and support.
Euro top mattresses use high quality foam in the surface, however, this foam layer is sewn directly to the top of the mattress and flushes with the edges for superior comfort.
Latex offers pressure relief and support with just the right bounce to keep you feeling light and soft as you sleep.
Memory foam gently conforms to the body for a soft, cushioned sleep experience.
Note: Not recommended for people who sleep hot.
Open coils help your mattress retain its shape and allow for enhanced airflow, promoting a cooler night’s sleep.
Individually wrapped coil support layers are highly durable and offer cooling airflow, reduced motion transfer, and ideal lumbar support.
Quantum™ Coil uses nearly 200% more coils than a standard mattress for luxury comfort and optimal lumbar support.
Our foam mattresses cradle the body, provide pressure point relief, and minimize motion transfer for long-term comfort.
This foam is a denser, firmer foam that is used in the base of our 100% memory foam mattresses to provide stability and support to those who want the cushion without the crater.
With its more buoyant feel, high-resilience foam mimics latex. Allows pressure point relief without foam’s cradling effect and is open cell to allow airflow promoting a cooler sleep.
Celsion, copper-infused, or graphite-infused talalay latex can be incorporated for your unique support needs and help provide a cooler sleep.
The Ice Blue Quilt Technology helps keep your body temperature neutral as you lay on the mattress to help you achieve a cooler sleep through the night.

In short, yes! Adding a foundation provides important benefits for both your mattress and your body, so you can sleep better for longer. The only times that you do not need a foundation are if you are buying an Adjustable Foundation or you have a platform bed where the mattress is completely supported by a solid base rather than just slats.
Sometimes, the mattress you think you want isn’t actually the mattress that’s best for your body. Learn how your weight, height, body shape, and preferred sleeping position all come together when searching for the perfect mattress.
When it comes to choosing a mattress, size is important. Before you click “Buy”, hear from our mattress experts and learn what to consider when picking a size for your new mattress.
